The New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame was established to recognise and honour those whose achievements have enriched the New Zealand Racing Industry.
The legend of the New Zealand thoroughbred, started over a century ago, when Carbine set a still unsurpassed weight-carrying record in the Melbourne Cup, and has grown through the deeds of historic champions Phar Lap, Tulloch, Gloaming, Kindergarten, Balmerino, Bonecrusher and Horlicks. The legend has continued through the feats of modern day heroes, such as Octagonal, Might and Power, Sunline, Ethereal, Seachange and So You Think.

New Zealand also gave birth to the first automatic totalisator, in 1913, and pioneered and legitimised off-course betting in 1951 through the world's first national off-course betting agency, the Totalisator Agency Board (TAB).The sport of horse racing in New Zealand dates back to 1814, in what then was Britain's most remote colony. Today, the Kiwi galloper is known, respected and sought after in virtually every country where racing is held.
New Zealand-bred horses have played an important part in Australian Racing history, especially since the inception of the New Zealand National Yearling Sales in 1927.
