Andrew Birch
Chief Executive Officer
Andrew returned to New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing as CEO in 2011 following a six-year stint abroad.
With a degree in Marketing & International Business, Andrew has always had a passion for the thoroughbred industry. Commencing with New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing in 2001, Andrew later joined leading auction house New Zealand Bloodstock.
In 2006, Andrew undertook the Darley Flying Start Management Traineeship, which saw him travel to the UK, Ireland, USA, Dubai and Australia, working with and learning from leading industry professionals around the globe.
In addition to a Marketing & Sales background, Andrew has worked in several ‘hands-on’ roles within the industry; including for leading trainers Tony Vasil and Herman Brown, in addition to a number of studs around the world. Andrew has also enjoyed stints with auction houses Keeneland and Tattersalls.
Upon graduation from the Darley Flying Start programme he assumed the role of Editor of Pacemaker Magazine, before joining UK-based vendor Jamie Railton as the Marketing & Sales Manager.

Tara Hughes
Marketing Executive
Tara joined the New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing team, as a Marketing Executive in 2010. Tara has worked in the equine industry for the past seven-years in a variety of roles.
She has worked as a stablehand for local thoroughbred trainers Don Sellwood and Graham Thomas and has completed a yearling preparation for Cambridge’s Trelawney Stud.
Tara has also worked for New Zealand’s racing broadcast team ‘Trackside’ for the past six-years.
She graduated from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Communications Studies, with a double major of Marketing and Screen and Media Studies in 2009.
