The eight-year-old gelding was not himself when finishing fourteenth in the Group Three Mills Reef Winery Trentham Stakes (2100m) last start. Prior to that effort he had won two and placed in the other two of his last four starts.
Zabene (NZ) is the early favourite with the TAB at odds of NZ$5.00.
The next fancied runner Santos (NZ) (No Excuse Needed) (NZ$5.50) finished strongly for second over this trip, 2400m, in the Virginia Turner Summer Cup at Trentham last start and has a good record at Wingatui.
The other well fancied runners are Woodyeva (NZ) (Riviera) (NZ$8.50), Kiwi Hussler (NZ) (Hussonet) and The Solitaire (NZ) (O'Reilly).
