Shez Sinsational at Trentham

Group One Zabeel Classic winner Shez Sinsational (NZ) (Ekraar) will be looking for back-to-back victories at the elite level when she runs in the Group One Thorndon Mile (1600m) at Trentham on Saturday.

A consistent competitor at the highest level, the mare scored a well-deserved Group One win at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day after finishing in the placings in both the Group One Queensland Oaks and Derby last season.

Trainer Allan Sharrock believes the drop back in distance from 2000 metres to 1600 metres will not be enough to deter his classy mare from figuring in the finish of the Trentham feature.

“The original idea was to wait for Te Rapa so I gave her a week off after Ellerslie,” Sharrock said. “Then I decided that the six weeks between races would be too long and the Thorndon seemed the obvious race in between.”

“She had a jumpout the other day and they ran a minute for the 1000 metres. She was three of three but carried a big weight and then I was more than happy with her Tuesday gallop.

“She might be vulnerable dropping back to the 1600 metres but they normally run this race hard and we saw Booming win this as a stayer last year.”

Shez Sinsational (NZ) will be partnered by James McDonald, who guided the mare to her first Group One win last start.

“It’s such a plus when you’ve got the right jockey on top. James has always had faith in her and they get on so well,” Sharrock said.

The four-year-old comes into the race well-weighted with 55.5 kilograms, 3 kilograms less than last year’s victor Booming (NZ) (Don Eduardo) and 2 kilograms less than dual Group Two winning miler Platinum Princess (NZ) (Keeper).
