No doubt about this early winner

16th Sep 2012

The opening juvenile event on the northern racing circuit, the Cowley’s Party Hire Two-Year-Old at Ruakaka on Saturday, was claimed by Doubtless (NZ) (Not A Single Doubt) in a victory which carried a strong family theme.

The two-year-old was bred by Cambridge couple Wayne and Vicky Pike and their son Tony, who prepares the youngster with Mark Donoghue.

A clear-cut trial winner at Avondale earlier this month, Doubtless showed acceleration from the outside barrier to cross and lead and was in no trouble from that point. He was clear on the turn and went further ahead in the straight to win by 5½ lengths.

Zaragoza (Charge Forward) was next across the line ahead of Desert View (NZ) (Murtajill), with the runner-up’s stablemate Almansa (Charge Forward) fourth.

Doubtless was ridden by Leith Innes, who enjoys a good association with the stable, most notably on the talented Carrick and rising star Sacred Falls.

Withdrawn from the Premier division of New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale series earlier this year due to immaturity, Doubtless is out of the dual winner and Sydney sale purchase Miss Elusive (Elusive Quality) and a grandson of the Group Three Mannerism Stakes winner Miss Jugah (Jugah).

A possible future target for the young flyer is the Listed Wellesley Stakes at Trentham in late October.
