Filly of the Year series continues at Trentham
The New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series continues on Saturday with the running of the Group Three Tiger Prawn Desert Gold Stakes (1600m) at Trentham on Saturday.

Three fillies who are already on the points board; Testa Secret (Testa Rossa), Abeautifulred (NZ) (Handsome Ransom) and Capital Diamond (NZ) (Lucky Unicorn) who are currently second (10 points), fourth (7) and seventh (5), respectively will line up.
At Group Three level there will be 6 points on offer for first place, 3 points for second and 1.5 for third giving all three to get a little closer to the series leader Planet Rock (Fastnet Rock) who is first on 20 Points.
The highest rated filly in Saturday’s race is Testa Secret who has been a picture of consistency this preparation for trainer Kevin Gray. Since her second to Dowager Queen (NZ) (Savabeel) in the Listed Fillies Stakes in September, she has run three second placings from four starts, her most recent coming in the Group Two Eight Carat Classic on Boxing Day. The chestnut filly has drawn barrier eight and will be partnered by Buddy Lammas.
Abeautifulred (NZ) was impressive when finishing second to Planet Rock in the Group One 1000 Guineas over New Zealand Cup week, she followed up with a fourth in the Group Three Ezibuy Eulogy Stakes before battling away to finish eighth in the Eight Carrat Classic. The Graeme & Debbie Rogerson-trained filly has drawn barrier nine on Saturday.
Also a consistent performer Capital Diamond (NZ) has put together four consecutive third placings including in the Group One 1000 Guineas and Group Three Eulogy Stakes. Trained by Lisa Latta for Sir Patrick & Justine Hogan and the Capital Diamond Syndicate, the filly has drawn well barrier three for jockey Jonathan Riddell.
The winner of the ‘New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year’ will gain value as a breeding proposition and earn her connections NZ$50,000 in bonus cheques including NZ$10,000 for her breeder, NZ$10,000 for her trainer and NZ$30,000 for her owners. Following Saturday’s race there will be three more legs culminating with the Group One New Zealand Oaks.
