Coat of Arms looks to turn tables

3rd Feb 2012

The connections of Coats Choice gelding Coat Of Arms (NZ) are hoping he can turn the tables on the favourite, Bangalore Bullet (Hussonet) in the Listed Metalon Guineas (1400m) at Wingatui on Saturday.

Michael Pitman

A margin of one and a half lengths separated the pair when Bangalore Bullet won the Listed Gore Guineas last start. That performance has seen him installed the NZ$4.80 favourite.

Three-year-old Coat Of Arms (NZ) has put together two seconds and a third in his four starts since transferring from the stable of his co-owner Sabin Kirkland to the stable of leading South Island trainer Michael Pitman.

Northern visitor Purpose (NZ) (Falkirk) is the early second favourite in the race at odds of NZ$5.50.  Trained at Pukekohe Park by Richard Collett, the Nearco Stud Limited-owned filly has travelled south in search of black-type.

''Purpose is a filly with plenty of ability,'' Collett said yesterday.  ''She had a hard run from a bad draw in the fillies' race (Eight Carat Classic at Ellerslie) on Boxing Day.''

In her only start since, Purpose (NZ) was slow away before running on for seventh in a rating 85 1300m at Pukekohe.

A start in the Southland Guineas at Ascot Park on February 18 will be decided on the back of her performance on Saturday.
