So You Think (NZ) wins Gr.2 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m)

So You THink (NZ) winning the Gr.2 NZB Memsie Stakes
With a full brother that is currently being hailed by Bart Cummings as one of the best he has had, there will be plenty of excitement in Cambridge come November 20.
On this date, a mare by the name of Triassic is due to foal.
All going to plan, the result will be a full-sibling to So You Think (NZ) (High Chaparral).
With victory last season as a three-year-old in the Cox Plate and with his bold resuming win in Saturday’s Gr.2 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) after a 10 month absence, So You Think (NZ) is arguably the biggest thing around in Australasian racing circles.
Certainly the current 2010 Cox Plate market thinks so.
In the race considered Australasia’s Weight-For-Age Championship, So You Think (NZ) sits foremost as Sportsbet’s $4.20 market elect.
Saturday’s NZB Memsie Stakes rider Steven Arnold certainly concurs.
“He’s a freak. He’s the best horse I have ridden. I rode Makybe Diva early, but he’s the best,” he said.
Last season’s concluding ANZ Classifications standings similarly supports the view. On this classification So You Think (NZ) shared a 122 top rank rating with stablemate, Viewed.
Perhaps though, the greatest endorsement for the horse is afforded by his 260-time Gr.1 winning trainer, Bart Cummings.
“I have had a few good ones, but he is up there with the best of them I think,” said the master conditioner after So You Think’s on pace win in Caulfield’s Gr.2 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes.
Showing no ill effect from his long lay-off and a minor throat operation, So You Think (NZ) had rivals gasping shortly after the swing for home, with the best challenge from the star-studded pack behind being mounted by the Mark Kavanagh-trained galloper Whobegotyou.
At the line, So You Think (NZ) had the Gr.1 winner’s measure by half-a-length and held a one length buffer again back to his paternal half-sibling Shoot Out in third.
So You Think’s time for the Slow 7 track outing was 1.26.68 and his credentials stacked up strongly for the races sponsor, New Zealand Bloodstock.
Bred by Windsor Park Stud’s Mike Moran and Piper Farm’s Cecile Smith, So You Think (NZ) was sold through their Karaka-based arena via the 2008 Premier Yearling Sale.
Purchased from Windsor Park Stud’s consignment by DGR Thoroughbred Services for $110,000, So You Think (NZ) has since rewarded owners Data Tan Chin Nam and Tunku Ahmad Yahaya with $2,324,050 in earnings.
Looking ahead to his 2010 Cox Plate assault, So You Think (NZ) will be fitted for the task with nominated outings ahead in the Gr.2 Data Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m, Sept 11) and the Gr.1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m, Oct 9).
Closer to home and his co-breeder’s expectations are cautiously realistic for the superstar’s full sibling due.
“At this stage, we are hoping for a healthy and happy foal,” said Mike Moran.
“The mare is currently at Cecile Smith’s boutique operation Piper Farm and is doing well.
“She has had seven winners from seven to race, but beyond her we are also eagerly looking forward to the High Chaparral foal from So You Think’s half-sister La Souvenir, who is due in September.”
Both Triassic and La Souvenir are booked in to visit Windsor Park Stud’s multiple Gr.1 winning Danehill Dancer sire Mastercraftsman this season.
