Bart Cummings’ stable star So You Think (NZ) (High Chaparral) was crowned the Coolmore Australia Champion Three-Year-Old Colt or Gelding at the 2010 Sky Racing World Australian Racehorse of the Year at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium last night.
The finalists for the award included top flight gallopers Denman, Monaco Consul (NZ), Shoot Out and Starspangledbanner, but it was to be So You Think (NZ) who possessed the trump cards on the night.
Last season, So You Think (NZ) won the Gr.1 WS Cox Plate and the Gr.3 STC Gloaming Stakes and he added further respect to his commanding record with a runner-up performance in the Gr.1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).
Looking to the season at hand, So You Think (NZ) debuted for success in the Gr.2 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) a week ago.
Following a 10 month absence from the track, the impressive win showed all was well and truly on track for a repeat tilt for the Cox Plate.
Of this 2010 Cox Plate assault, So You Think (NZ) is likely to fitted for the task with nominated outings in the Gr.2 Data Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m, Sept 11) and in the Gr.1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m, Oct 9).
Bred by Windsor Park Stud’s Mike Moran and Piper Farm’s Cecile Smith - who are looking forward to a full sibling entering the world in November, So You Think (NZ) was originally sold at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2008 Premier Yearling Sale.
He was purchased from Windsor Park Stud’s consignment by DGR Thoroughbred Services for $110,000, and has since gone on to reward owners Data Tan Chin Nam and Tunku Ahmad Yahaya with $2,324,050 in earnings.
