Gr.1 NZ Oaks contender, Mill Duckie (NZ)
The Richard Collett-trained Mill Duckie (NZ) (Magic Ring) quashed questions as to her ability over ground at Ellerslie on Wednesday with a smart win in the Listed Mercedes Benz Sunline Vase (3YOF, 2100m).
Previously successful up to 1600m, Mill Duckie (NZ) remarkably added the sixth win to her ten start career after over-racing in the trail throughout.
Despite these wasted exertions, Mill Duckie (NZ) still found plenty when was asked for an effort by apprentice jockey Tasha Collett, effectively surging passed rivals to ensure a ½ length win over Jungle Rocket (NZ) (Jungle Pocket), with Set The Tempo (NZ) (Pins) that margin again back in the third.
The win represented a career high for the Patricia Millen-bred and owned galloper and was her third in secession.
Mill Duckie (NZ) is a full brother to the Listed placegetter Mill Vinnie and is out of the unraced Masterclass mare Vintage Class.
To the future, Mill Duckie (NZ) will have her wares tested at Gr.1 level with a pending start in the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at Trentham on March 14.
