As has become customary with his swift starting manners, Coup Align (NZ) (Align) turned Saturday’s Listed Craigs Investment Eclipse Stakes (1200m) into somewhat of a procession.
Advancing his case for an invitation to Singapore’s KrisFlyer International Stakes on May 16, Coup Align (NZ) was jogging in front at the point of turn and although never really called upon, galloped to the line for an easy 1.5 length win.
Chasing hard, Attala (NZ) (Volksraad) did the best of the rest in second, 1.8 lengths ahead of Westend Lady (NZ) (Seasoned Star) in third.
Trained by Michael Pitman, Coup Align (NZ) has won 10 from 15 outings and has rewarded his owners Ray Coupland and Jill Walls with $216,625 in earnings – a healthy return on the $30,000 Coupland outlaid for him at the 2007 Select Yearling Sale.
Regarded as a star by his trainer, Coup Align is the winner of four stakes races, with the best of these being his 1:07.79 win in the Gr.3 Stewards Stakes (1200m).
