The Chris Waller-trained galloper Rangirangdoo (NZ) (Pentire) has given an early thumbs up signal to a tilt at April’s Doncaster Hcp (1600m).
Resuming in Saturday’s Gr.2 Green Day Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill, Rangirangdoo (NZ) drew on class reserves on an unsuited heavy (9) track, ultimately prevailing by 0.2 of a length over Dao Dao (Shinko Forest).
The 5YO son of the 9 time Gr.1 producer Pentire emerged as a serious talent last season, with feature wins here landed in the Gr.2 MVRC Crystal Mile (1600m) and the Gr.3 AJC Tramway Hcp (1400m).
All told, Rangirangdoo (NZ) has won 8 of his 15 starts, with all bar Saturday’s win coming at distances from 1400m – 1600m.
According to AAP racing, the plan from here is to step Rangirangdoo up to 1600m and then to 2000m.
“He has a few chinks and we are still learning about him, but he is a serious horse,” Waller told the AAP.
